Kelsey + Greg

These two keep me grounded. Both Kelsey & Greg are educators and I feel like no matter how long it’s been since we last got our families together, we can pick right back where we left off and not skip a beat. We just get each other because of our careers and the ages of our children. It’s been an honor to photograph their family and Kelsey’s extended family-when her father, Tom, was not expected to live much longer, Kelsey’s text asking for a crop of just Tom’s face from one of our extended family sessions was the least I could do for them. Tom bravely battled pancreatic cancer and Kelsey & Greg’s first son is named after him. Sweet Baby Will came along behind and I love photographing them as a family of FIVE!

This session was scheduled after Kelsey got home from a 19 day tour of middle east and eastern countries. That meant 19 days of single parenting for Greg and I could tell by his physical affection for Kelsey during our session, that Greg was mighty glad to have his partner in crime back in his arms (and helping with the kids!).

Kelsey & Greg:

I think I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating-it truly is an honor to be your friend & photographer. Thank you for that friendship, educator wisdom and humor to keep my perspective in check. You both are a rare find and together you are a force of nature who we love dearly.

Blessings,
Carrie

One of the things we were most excited about when we moved last year was not only the floor plan and nearness to work, but who else lived on our street! We asked Jeremy what it was like to live on Parkhill Drive and he said, “The biggest problem with Parkhill is not knowing if it’s one word or two.” One street sign has it Park Hill and the other has it as Parkhill. :) We’ve thoroughly enjoyed having this family closer and how our children have gained more friends as a result. You might recognize their oldest, Madi, as being my first senior of this season-yet again, the Class of 2020 is going to be really tough to say goodbye to!

I think the thing I love so much about this family is how much they laugh! Their photo session is always full of laughter, jokes, a little bit of teasing to garner a chuckle from whomever is in front of the camera. What a joy to spend time in laughter!

Christie + Jeremy: Thank you for a wonderful morning and for your continued support of my business over all these years. It truly is something special to have friends a short walk away on a street where the most challenging thing is how to spell the street name! ;)

Blessings,

Carrie

I don’t get passionate about sports teams, collegiate or professional. Don’t get me wrong, I do have my favorites, but I’m not a die-hard when it comes to sports. However, when it comes to my collegiate alma mater, I’m a fan and I feel an instant camaraderie with anyone who graduated from there or works there. Sara & Tom are such people. Tom is in the IT department and Sara is in Student Services, and this year, we did their family photos on campus in a few new places that have been built since I graduated. We started, however, at the Agora right next to my freshman dorm. :) Little Miss Charlotte was her ever-charming self while sweet Ms. Madi was struggling with teething-poor thing! We did our best throughout our brief time together:

Drake has built a youth center that opens this month to serve the community around the campus. It was a happy accident, but Sara & Tom’s outfits totally matched the main point of the mural by the playground!

Sara & Tom: I’m so glad we were able to get this to work out! Thank you for introducing me to new parts of campus and for allowing me the privilege of documenting your family at this stage. I pray that teeth (while vitally important) don’t put a damper on Madi’s summer! Being almost 2 can be rough! Enjoy your school year and the remaining summer we have left!

Blessings,

Carrie

This family burst on the scene in front of my camera with a super creative take on a shoot involving two English teachers. Since that first session, we’ve highlighted their love of the Cardinals, enjoyed the Art Center, mixed it up with some urban settings downtown. Even as I’m looking through their old shoots, how is it that this is their FIFTH session with me already?! Wow, their kids have grown so much! Keaton is going to be a junior, Reece a fifth grader, Aidan a seventh grader and Ms. Spit-Fire Ella will be a third grader. Holy cow!! My goal coincided with Beth’s: follow the glowy light and catch as much of it as we could!

After the balancing act on the tree trunk, we landed safely on the ground and chased the sun a little bit more:

Chris + Beth: You guys are so wonderful. Thank you so much for supporting my business, supporting my teaching, supporting our family. I am so thankful for your friendship, leadership and example to both Gerard & myself. Words just don’t do it justice, but thank you!

Best of everything for the start of this school year!

You meet Ali and when you find out she’s an educator, you nod your head in agreement when she explains that she’s a Kindergarten teacher. Teachers of the littlest just have a certain inward calm, patience about them that is practically of divine origin. I don’t know how she does it (or any kindergarten teacher!) but it’s been so wonderful to have another pair of eyes looking out for Laidy as she trounces through the halls of her elementary school. Ali has been a great resource for me as I have many questions about what’s upcoming for Laidy and it’s always in that calm, gentle, reassuring manner that even calms me! Can you tell I’m envious?! :)

Enough about me, here’s Ali and her sweet family! The last time they were in front of my camera, Lil’ Miss Molly was just 6 months!

When Ali told me she brought bubbles because Molly’s dress was a bubbly pattern and whimsical, I did that head nod thing again because she hit the nail on the proverbial head! :) And Molly’s personality was right along with it!

A few quick candids of a tickle fight (while dressed nicely for photos, I know….)

BUBBLES!!! (See if you can find the bubble that’s popping!)

Ali + Rob are fortunate to have Rob’s dad nearby, so he’s become a staple to our photo sessions too! :)

Ali + Rob: Thank you so much for having me back again! Your family is darling and they’re doing great with their photos every single time. Can’t wait to watch them grow in front of my camera and just as friends with our kids too. :)
Blessings,
Carrie
