Caia : Class of 2020

Caia : Class of 2020

You know those random ideas you get in the middle of the night? The middle of your shower? or while you’re brushing your teeth? This shoot is one of them and it started with the question, “How can I get Caia in front of my camera? I would love for her to be a CKSenior.” Both she and her sister had taken my photography class at NHS and their mom is an elementary teacher in Laidy’s building. It seriously was a match made in heaven. My plan was hatched and I gave Jackie a call.

We agreed it’d be an educational shoot, a mini senior session since Caia already had had some taken while at camp as a counselor all summer. I would teach both girls about how I pose and work with a client and review with Cadyn composition, manual mode settings and all the other things we’d touched on in my photography class. These two girls, while sisters, are also the best of friends, so I really think they thoroughly enjoyed themselves in our brief time together. My only regret? We should’ve started earlier in the evening since our cloud cover took our sun away too soon. But Cadyn knocked it out of the park! All of these photos of Caia are her’s, while mine are the Behind the Scenes of Cadyn “shooting” Caia. What a blast!!

I can totally picture Caia being a Panther apparel model, can’t you?

We hustled to another side of downtown and really had to work on how to leverage the light left in the day since it was partly shaded by trees and buildings. (The one of Caia under the awning may be mine, but the rest of these are all Cadyn!)

On a last ditch effort to try something new and end my #CKSenior season with a bang, we went to the water feature by the Civic Center and in between bikers doing tricks through the water, we caught some great expressions from Caia:

Ladies: It was a pleasure-an absolute joy working with both of you! I love the questions you ask, your intentionality behind your actions and decisions, not to mention your style. (Can you come clothes shopping with me and help a girl out?!) :) Thanks so much for agreeing to this educational shoot and I hope you gained a lot out of it!

Blessings,

Mrs. Krupke

Paige : Class of 2020

One of the last #CKSeniors for the Class of 2020, Paige hails from Ankeny and is a girl who doesn’t mince words. She means what she says and says what she means-no second guessing! I love the changes that I’ve made to my business this season in offering more products to clients on the back end after their session is complete. Our viewing consultation session after the photos have been taken? It’s super fun to hear the seniors and their parents ooooh and aahhhhh over the photos as we cull through them together! Some folks take quite a while to hone it down to their favorite 25ish. Not Paige! She knew what she liked right when she saw it and, more importantly, WHY. Talk about incredible feedback to me as a photographer! We had a blast and I loved shooting in familiar places but in a new way on this shoot:

Paige-your eyes are stunning!

I don’t shoot at Grey’s Lake often, but the golden light we saw was really hard to resist!

Paige-Congratulations on your senior year! I hope it’s everything you want it to be and more. All the best to you after graduation as well. Your sassy no-nonsense, clear cut approach to Life will take you far and I know you’ll laugh as you go!

Blessings,

Carrie

Savanna : Class of 2020

This girl is going places. She does her homework on a topic and becomes an expert-she even referenced my senior magazine and when she did, her mom said she read it approximately four times! Savanna is taking just about every class this year as an AP or Honors course and was already fretting over how to fit in college visits with that rigorous a schedule before school started. We were, however, able to kick up our heels (literally & figuratively) during our time together and have a ball! I love that despite her hefty course load, we were able to capture some of her silly side and that those silly portraits became her & her mom’s favorites simply because “that’s our Savanna”. Enjoy!

A quick outfit change and we tried the same spot before hopping over to a new locale:

I think she had just swatted a bug away from her face in the photo above, or maybe it was something I said…Either way, these next several photos in the white lace dress that she plans to wear for graduation had us all enthralled and super ecstatic to see the final products!!! (And yes, this dress is to die for because it has POCKETS!)

Here comes the fun!

Savanna-I hope you have a wonderful senior year and I know you will figure out a way to do college visits in the midst of those tough classes. If your session is any indicator of how studious and prepared you are-naturally gifted in organization and administration-then I think you’ll be just fine! It was such a pleasure to work with you, select your favorites and produce items for you that you’ll treasure forever!

Enjoy the ride,

Carrie

Vanessa : Class of 2020

Vanessa is what I call and mover & a shaker. She gets the job done in a logical, pragmatic way that is no nonsense (with maybe a little bit of wit thrown in for good measure). She’s also a young lady who knows what she wants, so when she approached me to do indoor images solely with her guitars, I knew we were looking at a mini senior session. Bless their hearts, Vanessa and her mom Val lugged NINE guitars to our session together (leaving 4 more at home!) and thankfully, they all fit in Vanessa’s truck! Phew.

Having taught Vanessa flute & piccolo, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this side of her musical life as she’s been the bass player for jazz band since 7th grade (I’m pretty sure?). Though petite in stature, her confidence and composure makes her feel like she’s 6 feet tall when she stands next to me. No matter what she does after college, I know she will be one to stand firm in her convictions, stick to her guns (or…guitars, rather), and be unapologetically her lovely self.

Vanessa, It’s been a pleasure teaching you, photographing you and I’m so excited I get to teach you AGAIN this year with a camera in hand! What a blessing you and your family have been to the music department and I can’t wait to hear from your Mama all about your collegiate endeavors. Until then, let’s enjoy your senior year!
Best,

Mrs. K

Mackenzie : Class of 2020

This girl was SO quiet in middle school! (I feel like I should put that last sentence in a smaller font and without the exclamation point just to emphasize how quiet she was.) Mackenzie is still somewhat reserved in character, but, as I found out towards the end of our session, ask her about chemical engineering of food and WOW. The hand gestures come flying, the tone inflections in her voice start leaping and this twinkle in her eyes burns bright. I totally would’ve brought that up sooner had I known what reaction it would elicit!

At any rate, enjoy these images we captured at her horse barn where she teaches and rides as well as a few from Downtown Norwalk. :)

Sweet Kisses did a great job for our session with her, but you could definitely tell when she was done! So, we then made our way to Main Street of Norwalk and made the most of the 30 minutes of light we had left in the day.

Mackenzie: What a joy to photograph you! Thank you so much for coming to me, being flexible with me and being so wonderful to work with. Have a fantastic senior year and I can’t wait to hear about your successes at Iowa State in chemical engineering!

Best,

Mrs. K
