Keaton : Class of 2021 Take 2

You first saw Keaton’s senior photos last summer when I normally shoot all my sessions. COVID has thrown a wrench in so many people’s plans-we had to make an exception to that. Last summer, Des Moines Schools were closed, as were their facilities. Norwalk High School has a shared swim team with Des Moines, who’s coach is employed by Des Moines. Because Des Moines was closed, we didn’t have access to their facilities to document Keaton’s swimming portion of his high school career.

This Class of 2021 has shown me such strength, a honed focus on what is truly important & a realignment of priorities. I’m so proud of the young adults they are growing up to be! We are thankful that Keaton was able to have some semblance of a swim season to cap off his senior year & it deserved to be documented photographically. And man, did I realize just how much I miss the smell of chlorine! (Fun Fact: I swam competitively age 8-18 and was captain of my high school’s team.) :)

We went in phases-warm-ups, then jammer, some reflections before the water was disturbed, starts & butterfly, pool side & a few with only flash at the tail end with Keaton’s State Swimming robe.

Keaton has a record up on that wall for a relay and as a utility swimmer (able to do all strokes well) I’m sure his coach appreciated his flexibility! This post became a “where’s the watermark” akin to Where’s Waldo-have fun finding them. ;)

This is how teaching photography has made me a better Photographer: more comfortable with off camera flash & not being intimidated by the shadows on the face. We created Rembrandt Lighting here with the little triangle of light on his left cheek!

Keaton-I know we documented swimming to wrap everything up here, but I am so proud to learn of your future plans at Iowa for music education! Keep us posted on all your events & I will look for you in the UofI Marching Band this fall-how fun!!

Be well,

Carrie
