Clara : A Class of 2023 Grand View Neighborhood Session

I think it’s safe to say that the pandemic has brought out new sides of people in good (& sometimes challenging) ways. For Clara, her family was ready for change and moved across town to the east side of Des Moines, enrolled in a new school and have thoroughly loved their choice. Similarly to Shae in an earlier post, Clara & her sister were tasked with learning something new in lockdown and Clara chose skateboarding (long boarding to be exact). She is also a talented artist (where did all these artists come from this senior season?!) and wanted to include her elderly cat, Josie. I think we were able to check everything off her list! (with some additions of frisbee golf players thrown in for good measure).

A quick outfit change and on for the short drive to an open field with access to the sky (for my photographer friends and students, that means that Clara’s skin wouldn’t look green because the sky/light from the sun wouldn’t be casting green onto her.) It was a lovely spot off a bike trail and while Josie could handle it, we used her in photos. This 12 year old kitty reminded me a lot of our schnauzer, Ella, who also had a temperamental tummy at times….We just kept talking softly and saying encouraging words to her & Clara too, of course!

Clara (& Lydia) : I keep saying this to my seniors this season, but dang, I’m proud of us! Finding good light, in the challenging topography of Grand View Park’s frisbee golf course, using a 12 year old cat(!) and long boarding our way through the streets without injury. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with you both and give you these images documenting your senior year. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors as you pursue a career in education & coaching!

Always here if you need it,

Carrie
