Shelby : A Class of 2023 Rainy Downtown & Rose Farm Session

I sit here and shake my head at the resiliency of this young lady. The requests she made in her questionnaire were TOTALLY do-able, we just kept coming up against road blocks at every turn! A super cute diner with a 70’s vibe wasn’t available when we needed it to be nor was her school’s auditorium. The Art Center doesn’t allow photography inside at all….So we aimed to nail it with a downtown feel and somehow find a flower field in early June when things aren’t quite blooming a ton yet. And did I mention the rain? Oh, Shelby. It’s a great thing that you are an aspiring actress because we faked it till we made it joyful, didn’t we?! :)

From the moment she popped out of the car in this adorable black dress and feisty heels, I knew we’d be just fine. Despite the rain drops that we dodged on our way to the first location, we just kept plowing through and I am so proud of both of us for it! Needless to say, we started at the Art Center (lots of requests for this location this year!) and went downtown from there.

Note to other seniors: bring more outfits than you think you’ll need no matter the weather. We ended up LOVING one of Shelby’s spare outfits for our downtown spot because the color and texture worked so well. I love when we have “happy accidents” like the mint green outfit above on the bold blue wall. Makes my colorful heart so happy!

Shelby requested Grey’s Lake, and while we used an umbrella to walk to the beach, I’m not sure why, because she was already going to get wet while we dodged the IRONMAN set up including porta-potties, fencing, roped off areas and a sign that blatantly said, “No swimming till Race Day”. Well, Shelby didn’t swim! We just had her kick up her bare heels and embrace the water, then headed to Rose Farm in Norwalk to round out our time.

Shelby (& Darcey) : I am so dang proud of you! Thank you for trusting me with this particular evening, for rallying despite the setbacks and your bubbly nature that made it a breeze to photograph you. When you need your next round of headshots for your Playbill on Broadway, let me know-it’d be yet another honor to have you in front of my camera. :)
All the best,

Carrie
