Ashlee + Alex

Referred to me by a sweet friend, Ashlee & Alex contacted me to photograph their wedding this upcoming Labor Day weekend. When we were discussing where to shoot their photos, they suggested their back yard right away because it has definitely been a labor of love for them. I arrived at their house for the start of our time together, and my jaw was on the floor when they took me to the back. Their labor is definitely evident in the details, their plants, the deck, the stream bed and furniture. I kinda didn't want to leave-it really is a perfect place to spend time and lounge, and come their wedding day, it will also be where they say "I do".

One of my favorite parts of their yard is that it isn't enclosed, separate from their neighbors, and we got to take advantage of a huge ancient tree that has been witness to their kids playing with neighbor kids for years. Oh, the stories I'm sure it could tell!

The other spot Ashlee + Alex mentioned being a favorite: Mullet's. Where they had their first date and closed the place down. No one really knew there were still customers up on the rooftop deck of the bar/grill until they went to lock the doors. From Mullet's, you have a beautiful view of downtown Des Moines and Principal Park where the ICubs play. The night of their first date, there were fireworks after the ball game, but also fireworks on the rooftop of Mullet's...

Ashlee + Alex: Thank you so much for having me!! You two are too sweet and adorable to put into words and I can't wait to see how your backyard transforms into the ceremony venue of your dreams!

All the best,

Carrie
