Carson : Class of 2026

I don’t think I’ve ever had the senior season start before their junior school year is over, but when you’re a musician and need to have use of our auditorium….and that auditorium is going to be renovated over the summer….we jump on the last possible weekend it’s available to get a jump start on the senior season! And also, when both of your parents are Instrumental Music educators, Norwalk School District Teachers of the Year (and Mom is an Iowa Teacher of the Year Finalist), inevitably, you will be good at music-ing as well.

Needless to say, Carson is a beast on marimba and we started there.

While we worked on some standard portraits, Carson’s dad, started laying out ALL. THE. PERCUSSION.

I have photographed Carson since he was 6 months old. We placed him in a gift wrapped box for his first Christmas and his adorable Asian chubby-cheeked face poked out from the top of the box with a mound of black hair that had a mind of its own. Fast forward 17-ish years and he’s tamed the hair, run a 50mile race to get better at cross country, earned his 2-year college degree before his junior year has even finished. His voice is a deep bass just like his dad’s, he’s a quiet leader in the music department represents his peers on the School Board. Who knew that that chunky, little 6 month old would accomplish SO MUCH before high school was even over?!?!

I not only wanted him to look up towards the light to help illuminate his face for these last shots, but to also portray the message of “I wonder what’s next?”

Carson - you will do anything you set your mind to. I have absolutely no doubts. Thank you for sending some smiles my way when I know you’d prefer to maintain your serious composure. We’ll see you soon for the second half!

All the best,

Carrie
