Dorothy + Michael : A Family Reunion Session
Fifty-Three Years and Still Going Strong | The Mauro Family Session
There are some people you just say “yes” to, no matter what. And for me? Dorothy is one of them.
She’s the epitome of a matriarch—steadfast, joyful, full of love for her people. When she called to schedule a family session to celebrate 53 years of marriage with her husband Michael, there was no hesitation. I was honored to say yes.
I first met this beautiful extended family when their daughter-in-law Michelle booked me for their 50th anniversary session. That year? Freezing cold. This year? Heat index over 100°, corn sweating, heat warnings… but we adjusted, we gathered, and we made it happen—because when your whole family is together, you don't wait for perfect weather. You show up and capture the moment anyway.
Michael and Dorothy raised two wonderful sons, Nick and Steve, who’ve both married strong, kind, beautiful women—Meredith and Michelle. I first got to know Michelle when I photographed her son Vinny for his senior session (he pitched for Norwalk’s varsity baseball team), and then again for Marea’s senior photos. Watching this family grow and reconnecting with them over the years has been such a gift.
This time, we gathered at Nick and Meredith’s home—a space filled with warmth, legacy, and beauty. We started in the living room, where a painting of the Tuscan countryside hung behind them. It wasn’t just any painting—it was inspired by a photograph Meredith took herself in Italy. It was the perfect nod to their Italian heritage, and a meaningful backdrop for this milestone session.
We moved outside to the front yard, where the home’s beautiful landscaping and architecture gave us the perfect place to capture more connection, more laughter, more life (while also not melting!).
Reuniting with this CK senior family—and seeing the extended crew again—was such a joy. Dorothy, thank you for calling me back. Thank you for trusting me again with your memories. What a privilege it is to witness your legacy and celebrate your 53 years of love. You have aged like the finest of Barolo wines!
Here’s to many, many more.
Carrie
